We are back home from an incredible farm tour in the Toronto area! We visited 7 farms over 2 days. WOW! These farmers are all doing a spectacular job. We learned so much, ate so many delicious treats, and had so much fun! We are always looking for new ways we can grow our farm and make it better. So thankful we were able to take this trip. Now it’s back to work here at the farm. There’s no place like home!❤️ #torontocanada #farmtour #bustour #canada #nafdma
Calling all crafters and vendors! We still have some spots available for our Fall Vendor Fair on Saturday, September 27th from 10am - 4pm!

We’d love to see you here! Please help spread the word by sharing this with your crafy friends. Comment if you want the registration link!

Look what we found in the zinnia field last night exactly 48 hours after planting! Tiny little zinnias are beginning to break through the soil already. Isn’t that amazing?! It’s such a miracle that in just 2 days this went from being a seed to a baby plant. Never gets old!
🎃Also, we have a pumpkin update.🎃 Matt spent hours cultivating pumpkin fields yesterday morning to help with weed control. It’s a never ending battle it seems! 🤣 While out there working, he determined that several fields of pumpkins had not come up well. He rounded up some helpers and got them replanted. Not fun to do the work twice, but hopefully these will do well and it will be worth it!
It was such a beautiful evening last night for planting some zinnias. Last year, we planted a small strip along our sunflower field on a whim and fell in LOVE! What a gorgeous, long-blooming flower! We decided right then and there that we needed a lot more zinnias this year.
Last night we planted an area along the side of our Fairy Tale Trail out on Pumpkin Ridge. We can’t wait to see how these “California Giants” turn out! 🌼
We’ll be planting more behind the corn maze near our sunflowers too! 🌻 (The plan is to get our first field of sunflowers planted in the next 10 days or so.)
We have some super exciting news!!! We have been nominated as a Cincinnati Family Magazine top favorite in the PUMPKIN PATCH category! Voting is now open, and we need your help to take home the title of Reader’s Choice.

Good morning! 🌽It’s corn maze cutting day here at the farm!!!🌽 Matt, Caleb Lipps, and Wesley Simpson were up and at it early this morning. They got the maze design marked out and are almost done mowing the paths already! Great work guys!
🗓️We are excited to share our maze with you this fall during our Country Pumpkins Fall Festival starting September 6th! #cornmaze #cornmazecuttingday #cornmazeadventures #fallfestival #pumpkinpatch #dryridgekentucky #northernkentucky #familyfarm
Last week we did a test round at our paintball gallery to make sure we have the height right and to plan where to place our targets! We will have a total of 10 paintball guns and lots of great targets. Hit it with your best shot at Country Pumpkins in Dry Ridge, KY this fall! #paintball #paintballshooting #paintballshootingrange #pumpkinfarm #fallfestival
Big thank you to this crew for helping us get some more pumpkins planted yesterday! It was hot, but we wanted to get them planted while we had some moisture in the ground.
Just a few more fields to plant then we will be done! 🎃🎃🎃 We stagger our plantings so we have fresh pumpkins available throughout our fall season.
We took advantage of the longest day of the year and took a walk through the farm at 9:30 last night! It was so beautiful and peaceful. Happy Summer, friends! So far we’ve got the corn and 2/3 of the pumpkins planted. July will be a busy month planting sunflowers and zinnias, working on photo spots, and lots more to prepare for our fall season! (Also we’ll be hitting the road to tour some other farms and learn from them - more on that soon!)
Our corn is up and looking amazing with this hot weather and rain! We got a good soaking rain yesterday morning - about 1.3”! Corn was happy last night! We’re having to keep a close eye on this field so we can get our maze design cut before it grows too tall. #cornmaze #cornmaze🌽 #pumpkinfarm #fallfestival
🧶Calling all crafters and vendors!!!🎨 Registration for our 2025 Fall Vendor Fair is now LIVE! This year our event will be held on Saturday, September 27th from 10am - 4pm. ✏️Register at the link in our profile!✏️
In addition to our regular vendors, this fall we will be adding a Mini Makers section to our event. Young entrepreneurs ages 5 - 17 will be eligible to set up in this special area for a reduced fee. They must do the interacting with the customers, not the parents. A parent / adult must be present to supervise. Space is extremely limited!
We wanted to catch up on sharing photos of our paintball shooting gallery progress so far!
This new attraction will feature 10 paintball guns that are mounted in place (our final set up will look a little bit different than these photos because we’re not done building yet). The mounts have “stops” preventing them from being turned too far.
You’ll get to shoot at tons of fun targets out in the field. It is a safe, and super fun attraction that we are SO EXCITED about!
*MYSTERY ATTRACTION REVEAL!* Well, the news it out!!! We are officially adding a paintball shooting gallery for this fall! We purchased 10 paintball guns that we will mount in this structure. We’re planning lots of super cool “targets” that we think will take this attraction to this next level. This will be safe and fun for all ages! Thank you everyone for sharing in our excitement!#paintball #farmfun #fallfestival #familyfarm
We’re happy to share that we finished planting Caroline’s apple orchard on March 14th! Here are some photos of the process that we haven’t posted yet. What a learning experience!
We’ve planted four apple varieties that will hopefully begin producing in about three years:
🍎 Crimson Crisp
🍎 Fuji
🍎 Granny Smith
🍎 Ruby Rush
Here’s a re-cap of our Apple Orchard progress so far!
🍎 Support trellis posts are set.
🍎 140 holes are marked.
🍎 Matt got about half of the holes dug yesterday.
🍎 Our 140 dwarf trees will be delivered today!!!
We are so thankful for the absolutely gorgeous, dry weather for planting the trees this week! #appleorchard
Friday we attended the Gold Medal food expo in Sharonville, OH. The kids look forward to this every year - I think you can see why! 😂😂😂 We got to see different concession equipment and supplies in action at this event. We have a new food addition in mind for this year….hopefully we can make it happen. 🤞
This coming week is a HUGE, exciting week for us! Our apple trees should be arriving on Tuesday and we will plant them Wednesday! We’ll share the whole process with you here. Stay tuned.
🍎Apple Orchard Update🍎 Matt has a cool story about the support posts for our orchard - you won’t believe where they came from! Since we are planting dwarf trees, they require a trellis system to keep them stable and to support the weight of the fruit in the future. Three strands of high-tensile wire will be run from post to post and the trees will be clipped to them. #appleorchard #storytime #familyfarm
🍎Apple Orchard Update!🍎 How would you guys like more video content from us?! We’re going to try to get better about that! Today Matt is sharing an update about the apple trees we will be planting this spring including where and when we will be planting them! (Side note, when he says we sold our cows he’s talking about himself. His parents Dean and Debbie still have lots of dairy and beef cattle here on the farm.) 😄 #appletrees #appleorchard
🍎BIG ANNOUNCEMENT!!!🍎 If you got the email newsletter that we sent out at the end of January, you’ve probably already heard this exciting news!
Recently we found out that our county offers a grant for 4-H aged kids to receive partial funding for special horticulture / agriculture projects. Our daughter, Caroline, applied for the grant and was accepted!
She will be using this grant (with dad & mom’s help) to start a u-pick apple orchard here at our farm!!! We’ve been dreaming about growing apples for a while (this is actually a very common request that we get), and it seems it’s finally all coming together. We plan to plant 140 dwarf apple trees this spring. From what we understand, they should be ready to harvest in 3-4 years if all goes well.
We should be getting the trees and planting them within the next couple weeks to a month. We’re excited to share the whole experience with you! Stay tuned!
Hello! We’re here with a little update on what we’ve been up to lately. This time of year we are in education and planning mode!
If you read our latest newsletter you know we had an agritourism conference coming up. We attended the 4 day NAFDMA conference in Lexington, KY this past Friday - Monday.
Matt and I LOVE attending these kind of things and we are thrilled to say we learned so much and gained so much inspiration for our 2025 season and beyond.
So what’s this alll about??? NAFDMA is an organization that stands for “North American Farmers’ Direct Marketing Association”. The membership includes hundreds of other pumpkin patches, orchards, Christmas tree farms, farmers markets, flower farms, and more!
The 4 day conference was broken down like this:
Day 1: Farm tour day! We loaded up on tour buses and visited 3 different farms for behind-the-scenes tours of their operations.
Day 2: Expo day! We got to see all the cool products that 130 vendors had to offer. We saw everything from gem mining, apple cannons, canned goods, lotions, giant slides, and jump pillows to farm consultants, insurance agents, and more. It was tons of fun and we got lots of great ideas!
Days 3 and 4: Education days! Each day was filled with of 8 different educational sessions to choose from multiple hours of the day. There were so many great speakers offering valuable information that we can apply to make our farm even better!
We’re excited to make 2025 the best year yet! Thanks for following along on our journey!
*CLOSED FOR THE SEASON* Thank you everyone for our most incredible season ever!!!! We are now closed until next fall. Your support of our family business keeps us going year after year!
We also want to give a big shout out to our amazing staff who worked so hard with us all fall to make Country Pumpkins the special place that it is. Truly, we are blessed.
❤ Rest and family time are in our future......won’t be long until we start planning for 2025. ❤
Blessings,
The Colson Family

📱LAST CALL📱 This is the FINAL DAY of our 2024 season!!! We will be open tonight, Thursday, October 31st from 4pm -7pm rain or shine....
🎃 All pumpkins and gourds are BUY ONE GET ONE FREE!
🌻 Our sunflower field will be open. We still have lots of beautiful blooms!
🐐 Our petting zoo, play areas, and corn mazes will be open.

🥨 This is your last chance to come get a Harvest Caramel Apple Slushie, Oakley’s Fish Pond Slushie, soft pretzel, and hot mini donuts until next fall!
Just took a walk to see the sunflowers on this gorgeous, 78 degree October 30th! Isn’t it crazy?? The flowers look so good and never cease to amaze me. This field has thrived through drought (last rainfall was a month ago) and multiple frosts!
🌻Tonight may be your last chance to see the sunflowers this year so don’t miss out! We are open tonight (Wednesday) 4-7. A corn maze ticket or Fun Pass gets you access to this field plus 2 u-pick blooms.🌻
We also stopped and saw the zinnias we had earlier this year. They didn’t survive the frost but you can see they were still in full bloom at the time - they bloomed for almost 4 months! You can expect to see WAY more zinnias here next year. We are officially obsessed. 😍
“Time is running out, people!” as our 5 year old Maddie says. We found this video she recorded all on her own yesterday and about passed out! 🤣🤣🤣 Hilarious!
As a reminder, here is our schedule for the remainder of the season:
Tuesday 10/29: CLOSED
Wednesday 10/30: Open 4-7pm
Thursday 10/31: Open 4-7pm (weather permitting)
We will run a hayride at 5:30pm and a u-pick hayride at 6pm each of the nights we are open. All play areas, petting zoo, corn mazes, etc will be open.
Then that’s it! Our season ends “very, very, very soon” on October 31st!
P.S. The “Maddie Makes It” she mentions is her little bracelet business. She’s been selling her bracelets in our gift shop this year. ❤️

Thank you for an amazing Saturday! We appreciate you all so much! We have an important sunflower update.
We will NOT have our sunflower field open tomorrow, Sunday 10/20. We are SO sorry about this! The blooms have been slower to open than we anticipated and we had a big turn out today. As a result the field is currently picked clean.
There are MANY more blooms to come, they just need more time. We apologize for any inconvenience. We try our best to plan and promote but sometimes things don’t go as planned, especially when you’re waiting for a flower to bloom. 🤪
We’ll keep you posted on the sunflower field re-opening. Should definitely be in good shape by next weekend if not before.
Our fall festival will be open Sunday 12-5 as usual!

We’d like to take a moment to reintroduce ourselves and tell our story.....
Country Pumpkins was started by Dean and Debbie Colson along with some other relatives in 2000 as a simple roadside pumpkin sales business. By 2010 we grew to a complete fall festival with hayrides, corn mazes, etc. Matt and Shelley and their children joined the business in 2012. Each year since, we have been working hard to reinvest in the business and add new activities. It has become almost a year round labor of love preparing for each fall season.
We love watching families come to our farm to make their fall memories......for many it’s become a family tradition and it brings us SO much joy to be part of that. Thank you for visiting us. When you choose Country Pumpkins, you are helping support a real family and helping us keep this farm going for many years to come.
Thanks for your support,
The Colson Family

*VENDORS NEEDED* We moved our Fall Vendor Fair to Saturday, October 12th! As a result, we have a number of vendors not able to attend our new date and have about 20 spaces available. If you’re looking for a last minute event, please register at our link in bio.
We’re specifically looking for vendors in the following categories:
- Woodworking
- Pottery
- Greeting cards
- Art
- Trucker hat bar
- Tie dye
- Plants
- and other unique vendors!
Sorry, crochet is full. No food or beverage vendors, please.
*CLOSED SUNDAY 9/29.* Due to continued showers tomorrow and very muddy conditions, we have made the decision to close tomorrow, 9/29 as well. We’ve received almost 5 inches of rain so far. It’s such a bummer and we’re sorry to disappoint anyone! 😭 Also, this rain and wind destroyed our sunflower field that was in bloom. Scroll to the end of our photos to see a little good news…we have a 3rd field of sunflowers not yet blooming that benefitted from the rain.
These photos show some of the wind damage. All minimal though setting the Hillbilly Hoops game back up took a couple tractors and some effort. Also, it seems that our new Adventure Barn sign has gone on an adventure. 🤣 It’s blown away and so far we can’t find it. If you’re local and find a 5’x6’ orange banner in your field, let us know.
REMINDER: We are CLOSED today, Saturday, 9/28! Our Fall Vendor Fair has been rescheduled to Saturday, October 12th.
We will make a decision about Sunday later today. We still need to fully assess wind damage from yesterday and do some clean up. Thankfully, the damage seems to be minimal so far....mostly involving blown over benches, signs, fence, etc. Right now we know Hillbilly Hoops was blown over which is mind-blowing! Fortunately all these things can be fixed fairly quickly. Still need to get into our corn mazes and check them out.
Thank you for your patience and support. This is certainly not how we wanted this weekend to go.
*IMPORTANT* We have a SAD update about our Fall Vendor Fair. 😢 We just made the decision to 👉reschedule👈 our Fall Vendor Fair due to rain. It was originally planned for this Saturday, but now we are moving it to Saturday, October 12th. As we’re sure you know, a large hurricane in the Gulf is set to head our way and bring rain into our area this weekend.
While we are thankful for the rain, the timing is tough! We want to give our vendors the best chance at success and our customers a fun experience. We greatly apologize to those of you who had already made plans to come and shop this Saturday. Please help us out by sharing this post so we can get the word out!
Also, we currently plan to keep our farm open this Saturday and Sunday.....who knows, the weather could clear up! We will be sure to post any changes here.
Our prayers are with everyone in the path of this massive storm. #HurricaneHelene
This week’s *ACTIVITY OF THE WEEK* is our 4 Acre Corn Maze! Meander your way through our maze full of twists and turns this fall season! Looking for more of a challenge? Find all our hidden stations inside the maze and you’ll get to launch a pumpkin from our Chunkin’ Pumpkin launcher for free!
The 4 Acre Corn Maze is $5 per person, OR included in our Fun Pass! This weekend your ticket also includes access to our sunflower field and 2 u-pick sunflowers. Open 6 days a week. Closed Tuesdays.
Not up to a maze this big? We also have 2 smaller kiddie corn mazes on the farm!

*THIS WEEKEND* at Country Pumpkins! Guess what!? We’ve got a little surprise for you! 🌻Our second field of sunflowers has just begun blooming! You will be able to access our sunflower field starting this Saturday with a corn maze ticket or Fun Pass. Includes 2 u-pick blooms. Please note: this field is very different from our first field this year. There are lots of weeds among the sunflowers and because of the drought these plants only reached about 2.5 feet tall. We will have a limited number blooming this weekend, but lots more should open through next week into next weekend.
Here’s the schedule for this weekend:
🎃 Friday open 2pm - 7pm. Hayrides and barrel trains run after 5pm.
🐄 Saturday open 10am - 7pm with all our activities and concessions. It’s Got Milk Day so we will be giving away free cider slushie floats to our first 100 guest and doing free cow milking demonstrations and calf bottle feeding between 11am - 2pm.
🌻 Sunday open 12pm - 5pm with all our activities and concessions.
We’re giving away FREE cider slushie floats to our first 100 guests this Saturday, 9/21!!!
🐄 We’ll be open 10am - 7pm on Saturday with all our fall festival activities. It’s also Got Milk Day here at our farm. In addition to the free floats, we will have free cow milking demonstrations and calf bottle feeding from 11am - 2pm.
This cider slushie float is a *EXCLUSIVE ITEM* we created just for this special day! It features 2 scoops of vanilla ice cream topped with apple cider slush, whipped cream, and caramel drizzle. It’s SO delicious! Don’t miss it.
This week’s *ACTIVITY OF THE WEEK* is our brand new Adventure Barn! Over this past winter and spring, we took our ugly, run-down hay shed and turned into this beautiful new attraction! It features a large corn box, guess who style games, wall ball, giant chalkboard, and a cute farm hopper area with a beautiful mural!
The Adventure Barn is the pretty red barn you’ll pass on your way to our parking lot. It’s included with our Pumpkin Ridge Pass and Fun Pass! Open 6 days a week. Closed Tuesdays.
Coming up this Saturday, 9/21 is GOT MILK DAY! You might be wondering, “What the heck is that!?” So glad you asked, we’ll explain. 😀
Did you know our family has been milking dairy cows since 1947 and currently offers a raw milk herd share (which is full)? It’s important to us to honor that heritage and take a special day each season to offer FREE cow milking demonstrations to the public. Usually only our field trip kiddos get to see this educational demo, but on Got Milk Day, we open it up to everyone! You will also get the chance to bottle feed a calf for free - which is such a sweet experience!
If you know our family, you know that we are lovers of ICE CREAM! This year on Got Milk Day we have created a very special, limited-edition, cider float and will be giving it away to our first 100 guests. It features two scoops of vanilla ice cream topped with our apple cider slush and a drizzle of caramel sauce to take it over the top! In the words of Brenda our friend, cousin, and concession helper........it’s the best thing we’ve ever made! HA! It’s seriously so good!
Thank you to Venture Dairy for sponsoring these free cider floats! Our 15-year-old nephew, Caleb Lipps, is carrying on the family dairy tradition and is pasteurizing and selling milk in the Shelbyville, KY area! Check out his Venture Dairy Facebook page for more info.
